Happy New Year 2014

Happy New Year to all my Blog Friends 🙂

Well X’mas and New year have flown by.

This year we went for a mid-night mass for X’mas at our local parish. M was excited about opening his Ben-10 watch that we had bought as a Christmas Present. He woke up at 11.30 in the night and dressed up for Church, just to sleep off when the mass started. We got back home by 1.30 – Lit candles, prayed and dozed off to sleep. Woke up at 10+ the next morning – Spoke to family back home and my work in the kitchen began. I cooked – Chicken Biryani, Chicken Curry, Chicken Chettinad fry and Prawn masala. We enjoyed a good lunch at 2.00 in the afternoon followed by more phone call to relatives.

In the evening we were greeted by a friends family – who had very thoughtfully bought us all Christmas presents – J got a David Beckam – Purfume, I was gifted earrings and a matching ornamental chain and M was given a mechanical puzzle. We were really excited. Since they were vegetarians I prepared stuffed vegetable poori’s and sent them off with a box of Gulab Jamun’s, Pal Kova and Christmas Cake.

Dec 26th – was boxing day and we went shopping. J got a few T-shirts and a Jacket to fight the cold. M got his Fav Ben10 pyjamas and I bought a jeans and top.

Dec 27th – Off we went to East Ham – It’s a 55min drive from home and it’s almost London. It’s the Singapore Version of Little India. There are stalls that sell Indian food stuffs like murukku or Priya pickle and Shakti masala. We did a whole lot of grocery shopping and ate dinner at Taste of India – A veg restaurant (Eating in restaurants has become one of our rarest activities)

Dec 28th – Rested and had the same set of friends over who had visited on X’mas drop by. Prepared drum stick Sambar and poured our crispy doss’s.

Dec 29th – Woke up at 5.30am and dressed up to visit main London. We hadn’t visited London, ever since we landed here in the UK. Our neighbour an Indian Doctor (Gynaecologist ) offered to drive us as he was posted in London on duty the entire day. We reached London at 7.45 and had a swift breakfast at Mac Donalds before taking the Underground train. We visited the Big Ben, Attended mass at St. Pauls Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge and roamed around Oxford Street. The London visit actually humbled my imagination about the Big Ben or the London Bridge. They looked just like any other buildings while I’d imagined something great.

Dec 30 and Dec 31 : We were locked inside home, we rested and rested. There was enough groceries – so we cooked and ate and slept and didn’t open the main door for nearly 48 hours. Dec 31st mid night – we witnessed the fireworks at the Big Ben on TV and slept off after a silent prayer.

Jan 01 : Woke up and rushed off for Mass at OLEM (Our Lady of English Martyrs Church ) on returning M wanted to visit Mac Donalds and J wanted to head for a buffet lunch. We were driven to Milton Keynes by a friend ‘ J’ who had accompanied us to Church. His wife S is expecting their first child and she is in Chennai. We had a Buffet at Red Hot and returned back home after an entire day out. What a way to begin the new year !
